Apparently its from a good source with contacts in this area....so I guess we wait and see, but as far as I'm concerned its a rumour until substantiated.

There was a rumour back in August that they were closing, but it was refuted by a member of staff from Eyres.

Why do you say that? Am I missing something?

I know some shops do it regularly, but I have never known Eyres use those tactics - and I do have an interest on town centre shops.

I was wrong Pete. They have a huge sale with reduced prices every year 
Why can't they sell stuff that much cheaper all year round.
Cos they can sell it overpriced for the majority of the year to people who are prepared to pay the price.
Can't fault their business ethics.

We had lunch there on Saturday. A few people in the cafe but I didn't see any customers in the rest of the shop. I presume what the do sell has a high mark-up. They aim at customers who are prepared to pay a bit more for "proper" furniture rather than self-assembled.

Are there enough customers around these days who wish to pay more for 'proper' furniture?  We have a mixture of both, some bought at Eyres, though the self assembly stuff often does the job equally well and in many cases is better value for money. Tough times for a store like Eyres, especially in Chesterfield.

Question: why does a furniture store have a cafe?
