Nick Clegg backs shale gas fracking in East Midlands
« on: October 04, 2014, 03:23:09 PM »
From the BBC website:

The Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg has given strong backing to use fracking to drill for shale gas in the East Midlands.

"I don't think we should turn our nose up at a whole new industry or technology," he told me.

As the Liberal Democrats gather for their annual conference in Glasgow, his support for fracking is significant nationally and for a region like the East Midlands.

But the fracking process is controversial and environmentalists, including some in his own party, will be unhappy at his enthusiastic endorsement .

Methinks Clegg has been spending too much time with the Tories...

Nick Clegg is a Tory conversion job hasn't he turned out well. Flacking lets start at Clegg's back garden and see if he sings its prises six months down the line when gas leaks into his water supply. :D

Absolutely right. Alkane Gas are no doubt sitting quietly in the background waiting for the law to change. Which it will - & everything will be OK to re-start the proposed underground drilling in Calow.
Oh, And we have a new Tesco Express. The Somerset House Pub is going to be a Tesco Express. Its approved by a faceless pratt in Westminster who doesn't even consider local council concerns - therefore I would surmise that Calow - in the future is becoming rapidly more & more a place to be over exploited, without proper infrastructure, & raped at will. >:( >:(

I don't want a shale drilling site near my home, which is on a single track road, with no off road parking.  It's unthinkable, I don't fancy a 130ft flame stack burning off excess gas within yards of my home. It's even been suggested that Dark Lane will have double yellow lines to stop parking outside our houses. There is (apart from my garage) no where else to park cars other than outside ones house.
It's not a case of NIMBY, just that there are other sites more appropriate, & a Farmer whose hoping to cash in on an available field, who doesn't want it in his back yard!!
