New Beetwell Street
« on: January 30, 2016, 06:01:51 PM »
New Beetwell Street is fast becoming Chesterfield's answer to Sheffield's  Pond Street complete with drinkers and druggies and appropriate launage to complete the experience. While waiting for the Poolsbrook bus I was entertained by vocal charms of a lady who only knew one word no prizes for guessing which one I'm glad my daughter wasn't with me. On the return journey from Poolsbrook the bus hit a car now thinking things could not get worse got on another bus I had the delights of a young man who was so drunk he couldn't stand up and had a mate who looked high chasing after the bus . The only thing that let down the experience was that no one was using the back seat as a toilet its not uncommon for buses in Sheffield having to be put out of service due to some kind soul leaving number two on the back seat for all to admire . Just another day on New Beetwell Street I guess.

The last time i passed through pond street bus station, i was approached by a "lady" asking if i was looking for business  :o
Well i think it was female ? I didn't hang around to find out ! I may have had a drink on that occasion, but i wasn't that drunk  ;D

Sounds like the dispersal order from Knifesmithgate, and the locking up of the Peace Gardens, has driven the crowd down there. I wonder where they go to when something is done about them in their present location ?

Are they drinking alcohol on the street down there then?
If so I thought there was a zero tolerance in Chesterfield to boozing on the streets?

Only a certain area of town is a booze free area, not sure what it exactly is.
This picky is the recent dispersal area where they can be moved on if causing a (problem).
Makes me laugh how they could sit on Markham Rd outside the police station with their legal highs. It's not in the area LOL

Or they can move into the Queen s Park plenty of seating in their I'm surprised that the Police order didn't cover the park as I'm sure when the warmer weather arrives it will a perfect spot for them. Another thing Iv noticed yesterday I always thought that drinking on buses was not allowed the bus I was on the guy who was drunk was getting it down and could hardly walk off the bus in fairness to the driver I suspect if asked not to drink he could have got nasty as he was getting a bit mouthie with people and ready to take anyone on. He got off near New Beetwell Street and headed to where a few were hanging around also noticed a woman on the floor and what looked like security trying to sort out what ever was going on .

Yes some of problems are linked to alcohol and drug use. As you have gathered where I at Arbrouthorne we have similar problems that are happening on New Beetwell Street the Po!ice did cramp down hard and problems on the estate went down but that was a while back and the previous problems are slowly returning. If nothing is done about this issue the area will become a no go area and the towns trade will be hit in the end but the big question is how do you deal with such problems?

I suspect bus/taxi/train staff are used to this and hope trained accordingly on the way to deal with it. Some times it is better to ignore a loud mouth drunk who may be wanting an argument. Pee on their fire so to speak!

The answer to this problem on Beetwell street again moving them on repeatedly if their were the staffing of Police or Community Officers.

Other than that regulate the sale of booze - we all are given tokens to spend on booze each month - when it's gone - tough no more. That won't happen though will it

Actually I think more support given to those who are abusing drink/drugs is needed - ----

Drinking on buses isn't allowed - the trouble is the passenger will hide it whilst he/she gets on the bus from the driver! We will stop people getting on the bus with a can or bottle of alcohol in hand if it's visible at point of entry. They are so clever at hiding it though - too late when they are on the bus - my focus is on the road rather than policing what the passengers are doing once aboard unless they distract me from driving which is a different matter which you will no doubt understand.
