Heat pumps

Heat pumps {just like smart meters} I wouldn't thank you for either.

Just read of an old couple who were one of the very first to have a heat pump installed many years ago. It was installed with help from a government grant and yes {along with solar panels} saved them money over the years, but now their heat pump is reaching the end of it's life and needs replacing. Unfortunately for them the government grant is only given for the first initial heat pump installation so a replacement is going to cost them an arm and a leg. They have had quotes for a replacement and all in the region of £17,000, so what monetary savings were made over the years seemed to be a waste of time.
 So by all accounts trying to sell your house with a heat pump will more than likely be a hindrance than an asset.

I first noticed the price difference on the Rykneld homes site months ago. Most of the older properties for rent had a rent of between £85 to £100 per week, they built some new o.a.p. bungalows I believe in Danesmoor with these heat pumps fitted and the rents for those were in the £150 + p/w mark.
I am not a pessimist, I just help them out when they're busy.

I don't know anything about heat pumps but with prices rising in most things - and not just by a small amount OAP's will be stretched to pay the rent if they are the price you say.
Our water alone has increased by £275.00 for this year.
Daughter's£165.00 in her bungalow, she lives alone.
Increases in pensions etc certainly haven't increased to cover the rising costs.

Do you or your daughter have a water meter?

I had one installed about four years ago and have definitely saved on my bills, not earth shattering amounts but definitely a saving.

They say if there's more bedrooms in your house than people then water meters are the way to go.

Daughters in a bungalow supposedly two bedrooms but a single bed would fill the room. She also has a lot of washing. I have thought about giving it a try for her but I've been told it can't be taken out once installed.

We live in a four bedroomed two bath roomed house. I do work from home and accommodate adult special needs for weekends, I'm also used like a hotel for family from the South. Unsure if it would be the correct move for us to have one installed.

I'm given to understand if you have a water meter fitted you can have it removed after a year if it's not working out {but please check}

Noticed in this weeks D.T. new bungalows are to be built in Stonebroom and will be managed by Rykneld. These apparently will have "Air source heat pumps and electric vehicle charging points".

They're hoping to have them ready by 2028 so just imagine what the weekly rents are going to be, if the ones mentioned above are in the £150 range these will be creeping towards the £200 mark by the time 2028 comes round and the way pensioners are being "got at" I don't foresee many takers.
