Are you suggesting that just because we have had some fantastic singers and songs in the past, there is no need to try and encourage more in future simply because we can always watch the old stuff from recordings. Much as I love whats gone before, I welcome new stuff as long as its good, and thats not something you can say generally about today's music charts.
The whole point of The Voice is to develop singers. That's why the "celebs" are actively referred to as coaches, not judges, and rather than be competitive between each other, the are actually quite complimentary. There is a lot of fresh young talent out there, but often isn't seen as it doesn't fit the mold designed by the "oh-so-safe" music execs. Adele being the exception of course, but again, that's the point of this show, its about the voice, not what someone looks like.
