In the Interests of fairness and equality
« on: December 28, 2011, 07:06:21 PM »
I am led to believe that a member of this forum has been banned.
In the interests of fairness, openess and equality would the mods care to explain why?
I'd hate to think that someone would be banned for no good reason as is being alleged in another place.
I'd hate to think it was an attempt to stifle debate as is being alleged in another place.
I'd hate to think this was censorship rather than sensible moderation as is being alleged in another place.
I'd hate to think this was someone being petty as is being alleged in another place.
I'd hate to think I had anything whatsoever to do with it as is being alleged in another place.

Mods?

Yes, a member of this forum has been banned.

They were sarcastic, abusive, threatening and generally obnoxious in their first posts.

So they were banned.

Rather than go into detail I'd prefer to leave it there.

Thank you for your understanding.
I started out with nothing and I've still got most of it left.

Thanks for that tony27806 - my thoughts too

Welcome to Chesterfield Online  :)
I've had a rant on the old forum too, don't know what went off on there, and don't care really, just stuff about life is too short FFS, and a definition from Wikipedia about free speech.
Quoted from Wikipedia as follows:
Freedom of speech is the freedom to speak freely without censorship. The term freedom of expression is sometimes used synonymously, but includes any act of seeking, receiving and imparting information or ideas, regardless of the medium used. In practice, the right to freedom of speech is not absolute in any country and the right is commonly subject to limitations, such as on libel, slander, obscenity, incitement to commit a crime, etc.

The right to freedom of expression is recognized as a human right under Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and recognized in international human rights law in the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR). Article 19 of the ICCPR states that "[e]veryone shall have the right to hold opinions without interference" and "everyone shall have the right to freedom of expression; this right shall include freedom to seek, receive and impart information and ideas of all kinds, regardless of frontiers, either orally, in writing or in print, in the form of art, or through any other media of his choice". Article 19 goes on to say that the exercise of these rights carries "special duties and responsibilities" and may "therefore be subject to certain restrictions" when necessary "[f]or respect of the rights or reputation of others" or "[f]or the protection of national security or of public order (order public), or of public health or morals
Followed by, and I quote:Currently a member of both forums, twice the browsing, nice!
Shame school playground stuff spoiled it, but then again I'm a grown up so can rise above it.

I'm not getting involved further - seems there has been censorship on both sides which you will all have to live with.
Life is to short FFS
Personalities clash - thats life I guess.
I think the rule of "be nice" extends to life in general. I see far too many loudmouths face to face in my job as a bus driver, but I used to get aggravated by it. Now I just treat it as my days entertainment, cos they can't physically get to me, and I don't rise to their arguments.
Put you lot in a room with a free bar and after an hour you would probably be mates again; however I admit I don't know (and don't want to know) how personal the insults etc. were.

No replies required, you have all been told off by a bus driver/former banker/former butcher.

Best Wishes everyone  :) :) :)

Happy new year :) :)

Thank you Tony - I'll be nice
I have no doubt you will, and this was not directed at anyone, at least you mate, just talking common sense I hope.
Like I say I'm on both forums, and have not been involved in any of the falling out.
I guess I should shut up now, cos at the end of the day, its nowt to do with me, but I like to have my say now and again.
I have to make an appointment if its with her indoors!

Goodnight, God Bless - Don't think I'm nasty, because I'm not,- I just speak my mind from time to time, which isn't too often..........

Anwers on a postcard please :) :) :) :) :)

I agree can't be doing with it on here as well as the other place though i didnt really know what went off and choose not to either. Sometimes we have to swallow our pride and move on its the best thing to do in these cases. Lets hope that kind of thing doesnt happen again and we can progress this forum :) Nice to see you too tony :)

I stopped posting elsewhere because the balance of the arguments was dictated by replies (or even parts of replies) being snipped.

When I was a moderator all I chopped was spam messages which appeared in the middle of the night (I regularly put the computer on about 6.30 on a work day while I'm having breakfast.)

It needs to be understood that race hate messages is a different thing to mild racial stereotyping on a joke thread. That isn't really any different to jokes about fat, thin, tall, short, blonde, ginger, bald, Geordie, Scouse or even Deedah.

As usual Sap has had the last word on a thread then locked it

Thanks for the complement Emmz:
"I look on both forums, tended not to get involvee because i honestly dont want to get involved however i think a bunch of 30/40+ somethings should be able to get along that bit better"
Most of us trouble causing 50/60 somethings appreciate it
