New Walton Works Development

I went down Brampton this evening to see the proposed plans for the new development around Robbo's Walton Works.

I had the big talk from the PR guys there and one of them gave me a full set of A3 posters that they had on display.

I'll put them online tomorrow as downloadable .pdf documents - don't worry about viruses, I'm on a Mac.

One of the nicest things about the meeting was that Mr Johnson, whose ironmongers site is right on the corner, was there chatting with the developers. He is in his 80's now - and his business will stay.

Anyway, here's a sample of the stuff I got, scaled down for the forums, but the full size posters (A3 and A4) will be online for anyone who wants to see them, tomorrow morning.

If they do something similar to the Victoria Quays development in sheffield, it could be good.

I was involved in  the early discussion on this so its been 6-7 years in the making to my knowledge.
They were talking in terms of opening the river up and making it a feature of the development at one time, wonder if that's still the plan?

I also found out that the old shop and terraced houses on Chatsworth Road will come down. The ones to the right of Brampton Ale House.

Just wondering if any of these new developments around town will incorporate taxi ranks ?
If the pedestrianisation of the town centre gets the go ahead, it might help 'our' business.

Fly, I don't know if thats optimism or naivety, I doubt the council would have thought one iota about your business, or anyone else's...they are too busy lining their own pockets.

Empty deserted land = no council tax.
Stick a few hundred flats on it = £1000's

Especially from a project someone else is paying for.

All sorts of ways, they give the go ahead to projects they want irrespective of the outcome, eg the idea of another cinema at Northern Gateway.
These projects lead to , for example, work being carried out to highways which will be privately financed instead of council funded, linked schemes and operations, tax benefits, etc, all adding to the councils income, but without any consideration of the loses from any scheme, I wasn't accusing any individual of fraud if thats how it reads.

I've said this before the highways issues is chcken and egg. Let's take T**** they funded the highways 'improvements' linked to building their new store. But if they hadn't built the store there wouldn't have been the need to 'improve' the roads.
Incidentally if you go on Chesterfield post there's an interview with ohn Burrows where he says the experts tell him there is a need for another cinema.
