Moving heavy furniture

help! Please!
Does anyone know of a peice of equipment (apart from two men  ) which could move heavy furniture/electrical items easy. If so can i buy it from Chesterfield.

Sack barrow - like porters used to use on railway stations. I imagine a good diy store would sell them - or try johnsons on chatsworth road.

@ Alsatian we have a sack barrow but it's to move a very heavy sofa.
What it is for is my daughters sofa which is a two seater with two recliners (she has two).
They are so heavy though, i had no idea what they were made of (metal frame    ) it was only when we came to move them to clean underneath did we realise how heavy they were.
@ Handy the link you sent will be useful for the kitchen stuff but not sure if they would work on the sofa's.
What do you think?

aww thanks Fly but it's to help move them on a regular basis which we will needing a care agency to do - currently hubby and I are moving them (well more hubby since my back injury).

Drill the bottoms and put regular sized casters under them.

@ Fly good idea and I did phone Eyres where we bought them from to see if they supplied them but they said there would be a safety issue as they were recliners - so no go unfortunately.
I just didn't realise how heavy they were when we bought them! Daughter liked them and we were paying --- so deal done!

At the theatre we occasionally tack small pieces of carpet underneath things that have to be moved, so that they slide more easily across the stage. At home, this would only work on something like a laminate floor, though; on another carpet it would make matters worse.

@ Stuart it is on a carpet, my daughter can't walk in laminate floors as she is prone to falls. Good idea though, I was wondering if a sort of castor which had a flat dropable base was available.

Not sure if these are available on a DIY basis but we have a lot of display units at work that are on castors but once we get them in place we flick a little switch/clip on the top and they lock into place and refuse to roll.

@ Handy cheers for the link I was actually looking at those later on last night, hubbies going to check underneath to see what they are actually stood on??
@JR thanks they are what I was wondering about but not sure what the sofa's are stood on - if it's metal probably won't be able to fix them but when keith's had a look we will know better.

We have a recliner (bought from Eyres) which has casters.  There's never been an issue with it moving.
