Labour MPs' expenses scandal
« on: November 02, 2012, 05:27:03 PM »
"Denis MacShane has resigned as a Labour MP, after a parliamentary enquiry found that his conduct was the “gravest case” of wrongdoing ever to have been investigated."

This guy had his snout so far into the naughty trough I bet he could hardly breath - the number of offences is too long for me to list.

He claimed for so many different computers, he probably had more than the local Apple store!

Disgraceful behaviour!
I started out with nothing and I've still got most of it left.

If he's been on the fiddle he deserves full force of the law

Fair and true comment Andy, there's too much deceit and lying in the top rank.

Oh he's been on the fiddle alright - described by investigators as the “gravest case” of wrongdoing ever to have been investigated."

I'm struggling to get my head around this one.
He's been caught submitting invoices from a company that has no staff or offices and a bank account that he himself controls. So evidently there is no auditing of any of the payments made to MP's or else those facts would have come to light.
Then he says yes he did it but he didn't actually benefit financially from these claims (so he effectively was paying himself but not benefitting? So who did?)
Then he's written to the Parliamentary commissioner to confess his sins but because he wrote to them its covered by Parliamentary privilage and the letters can't be used as evidence in any police prosecution.
If you used it for a script on Yes Minister it would be laughed out as far fetched.

Yep - but it's true. It must be true because he has resigned, not something MPs do these days without a long fight to stay in power - even if they are guilty. This makes him guiltierer.  :o

And now, a former Labour MP caught with a hand in the public till - or more likely both hands and her legs too! £53k!

"Margaret Moran fiddled £53,000 in expenses, but will not go to jail.

Margaret Moran, the former Labour MP, fiddled her parliamentary expenses to receive more than £53,000 to which she was not entitled, a jury has decided, but will not go to jail because she is unwell."

Funny that, Margaret, I don't feel too good myself...

Those who escape justice on a technicality or parliamentary privilege give the whole system a bad name

Regardless of party, tis a shame they try to claim more than they are worthy off or allowed.
Let's put it down to greed.
