Me and Our_Lass are in agreement. We wouldn't have paid for the second op leaving the cat with 2 legs

Agree with you both on that one - similarly, we talked about what we would do if/when Jaide lost the use of her back legs (as alsatians are prone to doing). I remember as a schoolkid  seeing a woman take her dog (a corgi) out and supporting it's back end with a scarf.

Fortunately, but sadly, she had to be put to sleep before that happened.

I've seen the TV shows with larger dogs and wheels on their back ends.
They look so lively and happy, dog and owner.
That's all good and well, but the dog can't get up and put them on itself.

I'm quite unhappy that someone I know puts a nappy on their elderly dog every night 
Yes, they love the dog, it's 16 years old, they've had it since it was a pup.

Beer maybe on my part. But nappy, dog, 16, 
I'm glad I'm not the dog.

It's nowt to do with the beer Barry - that was one of the other problems with Jaide in that she was incontinent.

Putting them in nappies and supporting their back end is humiliating for them insofar as they have lost their independence and are being kept alive for the owner, not the animal.

Yes it was one of the hardest decisions we have ever had to make, but it was - we believe - the right one for Jaide.

I've had to take 2 of our cats to the vets on separate occasions, and say, "Put this cat down please"

I felt horrible doing it, I still do.

I agree that the kindest thing to do would be to put the cat down.
When i was younger we had a 3 legged cat and he managed just fine he did get into an accident some 5/6 years later and was put down.
The hardest thing i have done is to say yes to the putting down of MIL's cat, I never thought it would be so hard to do but it was and i still feel sad he passed on.
How would a 2 legged cat survive? I would imagine it would be hard for it to walk....
