It's plumbing day!

Plumbers are occupying our flat today, and you can't even imagine how happy I am that we haven't had a chance to put down
a carpet in the study yet.

A few days ago I noticed that there was water on the floor in the study, just by the corner in the wall towards the bathroom. The
window was closed so it didn't come from the outside. I asked Robin to give the landlord a bell. The worst that could happen was
that they sent a guy to inspect nothing.
Right...heh
So yesterday we had a guy here to take a look at this and today they're tearing out everything...or almost :p
The tiny puddle by the window in the study was a burst hot water pipe from the boiler. And the boiler is in a closet in our bedroom,
which is on the other side of the hall.

Today they are making a mess out of everything :p
Yesterday they were talking about removing the bathtub, but today the new guy said that it's too heavy and too old to just move, so
that won't happen.
However, the hot water pipe is located in the concrete floor, so I believe they will leave it there, disconnect it and put in a new one.

As the guy who was here yesterday said - water leaks are usually worse than they seem.
Not sure if they will do anything about the wall between the study and the bathroom, but I bet it's full of water. The paint is coming off on both sides,
so that could probably use new plaster and paint.
They estimated this to take about 2-3 days...and I hope they're right.

Without wishing to sound like Job's comforter I've had three friends recently who have brought down ceilings with water leaks so maybe it's not as bad as it seems.

And I forgot to mention....
They also need to exchange the hot water pipe into the kitchen...so the hallway will look
like a disaster area after a while...haha

But...rather do it now while the walls are still standing.

Well that was bound to happen at some point.  If the hot water pipe is copper then concrete has a corrosive effect on it due to the lime.

Yep, that's exactly what happened. Our hallway is full of new shiny copper pipes right now

Are you sure the water was from a burst pipe, unusual if its in a closed heated space such as cupboard. Water near a wall could be condensation?

I was not the one who said it came from a burst pipe, the plumbers did. We've had two of them here all day (they just left) and so far they replaced
the hot water pipe all the way from the boiler to the bathroom. Tomorrow they will continue from the bathroom and into the kitchen.
They did some checks before they got started and as soon as you used the hot water in the kitchen it began to leak under the bathtub.

We're on our second plumbing day here....Friday 13th...heh....and it's cold. They disconnected the gas and water to finish the
pipes and then connect it to the boiler today. I'm just hoping nothing happens. And no, I'm not superstitious :p

lol....yeah, that's usually the way it goes.
I think we've been lucky this time. The water and gas is back on and everything works. And, no leak
On Tuesday they'll be back to fix the holes they made for the pipes. Looks a bit rough right now, so they will
prettify that. We also need a new front for the tub.

Then we hope that someone will stop by and put together the rest of the bathroom too
