How much do you pay?
« on: May 16, 2013, 07:03:14 PM »
We've just had notification from British Gas that our monthly payment is going up from around £180 to £250pcm - a bit of a shock to say the least. But is our bill high or low? I don't have a clue about what typical folks pay - and I don't trust people in the energy market to give us honest information.

There is currently me, my wife and daughter living here, the heating comes on at 7am and goes off at 8.30am - back on at 5.00pm and off at 10.30pm.

Any help/advice opinions etc greatly appreciated. If you don't want to put figures on the web, please pm me, discretion assured.
I started out with nothing and I've still got most of it left.

I pay WELL under that for both Electric and Gas, with Southern Electric.
But there again Pete, It Depends on your usage.

Had a letter from EON today. Our monthly Direct Debit is being lowered from £79 PCM to £66 for the coming year.
We are on an dual fuel online tariff with EON for Gas and Leccy. Paperless billing.

You seriously need to swap mate  :o :o :o :o :o

Our regular car insurance company wanted £350 the other year, well, about 5 year ago.
GoCompare.com £170 this year, same cover.
Holiday insurance £17.50 for both of us abroad, same cover.
House insurance, contents GoCompare. Bradford and Bingley I think. £70

Me tinks you are getting ripped off, or running a cannabis plant and sauna house  8)

I should be so lucky...

Even at those prices it's still a cold house - and we had a new central heating boiler and rads thinking the old system was not efficient.

ours is £20 for electric and £34 for gas pcm.

Id question yours if I were you.  A couple of months ago the meter was estimated so they said it would increase to just under £100.  It was over 1000 units out.

We still have a 25 year old back boiler and our gas and electricity direct debit has just gone up from £67 to £95 pcm. We're with Scottish Power.

£75 PCM with E.O.N. (gas and electric)
Was on a lot of the day for 3 days a week winter and alleged spring
Not sure how much we would have saved if the external building cladding had reached as far as us

Sorry - my heads all over the place at the moment, I should have put more background to my figures:

- 2 bed semi detached mansion - sorry, house

- double glazed, cavity walls insulated, loft insulated to current recommendations

- room thermostat set to 18/19c

- 2 people

- heating on 2 hours in a morning and c6 hours in an afternoon/evening

......................the only reason our D/D has gone up dramatically is due to the extremely cold weather we had fairly recently and we ended up with a higher than normal debit balance on our last quarters bill.

If, given our antiquated (and allegedly high energy usage) back boiler equates to c£95 pcm, it seems outrageous that yours should be £250!!!

Gas £226.85p from January 22 till 16 April new boiler fitted last year but heating was on constant (via wireless thermostat) set at 21 degrees we do have cavity wall and loft as been  insulated twice now that's a 2 bed semi, plus double glazed , I have found our bills have dropped dramatic since the new boiler and by using the thermostat as against using the timer on the old system , yours is very high.

if thats per month just for gas and you still live where I think you do, then change it and fast. I'm paying less than that to heat a 5 bedroom house with a wife who thinks she's an orchid!!!!!
