Question for Fly
« on: June 29, 2013, 10:41:20 AM »
What's the taxi situation regarding suitable seating for transporting children?

They come in 3 different sizes as far as suitability. Presumably with babies the parent normally have their own carry seat that fits into a pushchair. Older children have booster  seats that are ease to store in the boot.

However, the 1 to 5 year olds (approximately) need quite large seats and of course it's a legal requirement for children to be suitably seated.

Would a taxi company provide this if pre-booked?

Potential business for you here as my wife needs quite regular trips from home to day nursery to daughter's (approximately lunch times). Experienced grandparents preferred.

Taxis are actually exempt from the laws when carrying children. We can't be expected to carry an assortment of seats.
Celia's Taxis does have a range of car seats for babies/kids that can be requested when booking a journey :-)

From the Android :-)

Appreciate that it would need to prebooked. Are all drivers trained to fit them properly as they are to deal with wheelchairs?

There's no rules from the Town Hall about this.
Even escorts/guides aren't taught how to as part of their NVQ training, which I find rather stupid.
I'd like to think all our drivers are capable of fitting a car seat correctly.
We've had the granddaughter all day today, still got her, I've driven 3 different vehicles, and had to put the baby seat in every one. Sick of seeing it now  ;D
