Possible con man
« on: September 23, 2013, 09:42:07 PM »
A friend of a friend has asked me to post this......

"I am keen to recover money for my dad, fraudulently obtained from him by a bloke calling himself Top'n'Trim.

He calls on spec, and does, say a gardening job quite well, and then the victim is on his radar. Gardening, DIY etc.
He charged my dad £200 for bogus roofing, and a severed telecom cable when a bit of garden work was done. I phoned the man, and he lied about his company and not doing the work. All I want is a refund for my dad, and the guy done for not declaring income as no receipts were issued and he claimed they were not necessary when I questioned him.

Please make a note of his registration number if you see his van around again. Sightings in Hady and Hasland areas, but I only have a phone number. Dad fell for it in a big way. I have informed Trading Standards, HMRC and a consumer show. Thanks in advance for any help."

The friend is very upset as you can imagine and his dad is 82 so I figured we may be able to help.

He had a it of a fall out Chesterfield Forum a few years. Think it's time to give him a chance to post on here. Worrying times if he needs to sort problems out from abroad.

And indeed, Andy: here he is.

It has been suggested that the scumbag may be a member of the community of travelling gentlefolk. Someone told me there is a field on Hady Lane where these quaint spirits of the road have circled their brightly coloured vans and shiny coated horses, and where their flaxen haired daughters skip gaily through the meadow next door. Perhaps anyone passing along Hady Lane for whatever reason could look out for a Top'n'Trim van (without horse), and make a note of the license number or, better still, get pics? Sadly, the security footage from Dad Towers only caught reflections from the van windows, and the time it was parked outside the family seat. No images of the scumbag.

OK Sorry for confusion, and nice to join the Facebook Away-Day.
Top'n'Trim (Scumbag) tel: 07552 631681 is to be avoided if you want gardening or DIY jobs done. Dad, the dear old sucker, paid 200 quid for 'roof insulation' that wasn't, and was left with a 76 pound BT bill to replace the incoming cable severed by said scumbag. He also over-charges and uses intimidation to retain his 'clients'. He works for cash, and refuses to offer paperwork. He lies about his status and that of his operation. He denies having carried out work if a complaint is made. To be fair; he came clean in the end, and my reports to HMRC and DTS may put a crimp in his nuts.
Sightings, or previous experiences of this character, please.
