Four in ten voters reject ALL parties
« on: November 15, 2013, 04:04:42 PM »
Interesting article in the Independent today, apparently just under half of all folks asked said they wouldn’t vote for any of the main parties - I can sympathise with that!

“Four in 10 people are "alienated" from  Britain's political parties and say they will not consider voting for any of them, according to new research.

Young adults are even more "disengaged"  from the party system, with 46 per cent of under-30s saying "none of the above" when presented with a list of the parties. Although the polling does not mean people are apathetic about politics,  the anti-sleaze watchdog which commissioned it believes the findings pose worrying questions about the future of democracy in Britain.”

I think it's getting to a point where people really are sick of the main parties and want to see change. They don't care who it is.
As we all know though, until you can take the greed away, this will never happen as too much of the countries wealth is being squandered or stolen through tax havens by the greedy.  ::)

Is there aby wonder people share an apathy when asked about politics, many have taken a battering during the coalition gov, who have changed laws, lied and worked under handedly to get changes made.
Other parties, Charities, GP's etc have all been ignored therefore people are going to say 'what's the point'

IMO eventually if this is allowed to go on the people will revolt and the streets will a chaos.

It's what happens when people are sh@@ on and they feel they need to take it into their own hands.

One problem. You can have as many parties and interest groups as you like but if all they do is dilute the votes then the main ones still win all the seats under first past the post they just get them with 20% of the votes instead of 40%

Good. PR would bring the sort of nonsense we've had for the last 3 years every election.

Should be clearer cut next time now LibDem MPs have shown their true colours.

Right wing: Consevative, UKIP, LibDem, BNP & a few minorities.

Left of centre: Labour

One of the big problems is a facet of the "cult of celebrity". People are swayed by looks and personality as per Boris becoming Lord Mayor of London  - and unless Labour can present a leader with a bit of charisma to front their campaigns, they are likely to lose votes to UKIP.

Personally I would like to have seen David Miliband as the Labour leader, but I think the unions affected that vote didn't they?

Labour? Left of centre? Who are you trying to kid? Apart from yourself of course. Teflon Tone realised that a left wing Labour Party was unelectable and ran as far to the right as possible. Nothing that the talking horse has done since taking over has changed that. A left wing party remains unelectable.
As for PR the reason the 'big' parties are against it is because they know it's the only thing that guarantees that sooner of later they will be back in power. It's the reason the system will never alter and will mean that people will continue to be apathetic about politics and political parties.
Be honest if the current coalition running the country was lib/lab like the late 70's we wouldn't hear a peep out of you. Nasty things sour grapes!!

The Lib/Lab pact of the 70s was a mess and didn't last. We will be back to 2 main parties fighting it out and a few minor ones in 2015
