The Tories and ATOS
« on: February 20, 2014, 03:36:59 PM »
The idea that Tory welfare reforms bring "hope" and "opportunity" to the poor and vulnerable is yet another extraordinary assertion. Here are a few facts about this supposedly "hope" inspiring welfare system.

  • The DWP admitted that between January and November 2011 at least 10,600 people died within six weeks of being declared fit to return to work under the Atos administered WCA regime.
  • The DWP is currently stonewalling Freedom of Information requests to ascertain how many people have died in similar circumstances since November 2011.
  • The DWP didn't even count how many people had died within weeks of being declared fully fit for work and thrown off benefits entirely.

There is nothing  like a moral mission with all this.

As we have said before the basic background thinking to the welfare reform is right but it's ill thought out, lies being told to cover tracks and a refusal to listen to the Church or Charities who have been banging loudly on the door of this government from day one of this reform being made public.

We have had a topic about the Benefits street Programme and if I remember both myself and Alsatian remarked about the young man who was just kicked of benefits and told to find work.
I think we both agreed that this young man could maybe have done some type of work but needed help and support to get a foothold into work.
It was obvious that he had some learning difficulties - if both Alsatian and I had spotted it I'm sure many more did, who watched the programme - so then WHY didn't the assessors of ATOS spot it? and WHY didn't the DWP?
WHY wasn't he offered a back to work programme designed to help and support him??
WHY? - because that's NOT what is happening is it, he was just ONE casualty in all of this and there are so many more out there!
In the last live debate this young mans situation was highlited - and yes we were right!
I believe he has now been given support and the opportunity to work -

There is no 'hope and opportunity' for many in this - only misery.

Cameron and the DWP lie, they must do because surely no one can be so thick and blinkered - or can they?

Yes, I agree that they can be manipulative and creative with the truth - but I think they are thick and blinkered as well.  :))

Remember that article I found last week about right-wingers being less intelligent than left-wingers...

I rest my case. :)
