I dont know if theres been a policy change, or whether it is a result of budget cuts but what seemed most noticable to me about the recent snow fall was not the side roads and estate cul de sacs (you expect those to be left) but that the major routes, and I'm talking roads like Newbold Road, Hasland Road, Derby Road, the road through Unstone and Dronfield   etc took far longer than normal to clear.
Maybe as a result of less traffic given its the holiday period.
The other anusing thing for me is that weve had any number of customer order online deliveries and freely admit that theyve done it because they weren't prepared to risk driving on their roads but were obviously prepared for us to take the risk on their behalf!!

I don't see a problem with that.

If I was an average person with little confidence driving on snow/ice covered roads, I would ask a taxi driver. They are experienced, professional (well, most) drivers and are likely to have some experience of bad weather driving.

Plus, with the inexperienced drivers off the road, it would be safer for us all.

Off topic, but related, this week I've seen an alarming number of posh folks with high end 4 x 4s slowing down to 1 mile per hour just to turn a simple corner.

The council has taken a verbal slap on the wrists in the D.T because of the state of the roads. I have watched the grit lorry go through our village and put nothing down - it is a bus route. I've wondered if it's lack of cash and so trying to conserve what stocks they have in grit in case we get a bad winter for snow

My daughter stayed with us from Christmas Eve and on Saturday after Christmas I spoke with a manager from the support agency and and offered to support my daughter in her own home  when she returned on Monday( providing we could get her back there ) instead of putting the agency staff at risk in their cars. It's what I've done in the past. So easy for me to walk to daughters and keeps their staff safe.
This was agreed and then Tues/Wed the agency used staff who were on a bus route.
Why do people think that taxi/ van drivers etc are exempt from having accidents in bad weather.

There's always wingers and moaners every year when it snows.

Why cant folks show a little more understanding instead shooting off their mouths every year as though the council have large amounts of money to pay loads of workers and buy loads of snow clearing vehicles and have them parked up for 51 weeks of the year.

Folks are quick enough to complain when they put the council tax up.

Also what happens after the snow changes everything - its a major headache for any council to get it right - they don't have magical powers!

Snow reduces our ability to get around easily for about a week every year. Get over it.

There's also the point that some people don't want to risk being in an accident in their own car, and probably don't care if the taxi is in an accident. Claim time

I wouldn't have minded so much this time had I not been getting email updates telling me that A roads were being gritted ( which they were ) but also B roads ( which they were not ) -
Prefer to be told the truth, if they haven't money or man power just say so !
