Motorways and speeding
« on: January 16, 2015, 12:53:00 PM »
Just out of interest, how many of you know what is meant by the term 'average speed'

Im wondering as a lot of people dont seem to know this and many other things when using the Motorways.

Apparently the 50mph limit between J28 and J32 on the M1, has caught 16000 people going over the average of 50mph since they were installed.

Now i read that over 1500 people have been caught speeding on the M25 in the past 3 months since new cameras were installed there.  The gantrys show the limit in a red circle which means its a restriction, rather than a triangle which is an advisory.  So, ive no sympathy whatsover if these people dont understand road signage.

I really think that education on using motorways should be compulsary, but dont get me started on middle lane drivers (again)

I rarely have a need to use the motorways these days, not a fan of them anyway. There are too many people who think they are 'clever' at driving high speed.
When I passed my driving test I actually paid my instructor for an hours motorway driving, I needed the confidence to go it alone!

Had a few speeding tickets over the years.
Never got one on a motorway  :)
Yes, I know what 'average speed' means  :D

1,500 people caught on the M25 in three months. 142,000 vehicles use it each and every day...

Hi Big Dave 2. Welcome to chesterfieldonline  :)
Any relation to BigDave, a former poster? Sadly not heard from him in a while.

That looks like a small % of the users of the M25. They know the camera's are there ?

Same Big Dave, see the 'Question for the men' thread.

You're right, it is a very small percentage of M25 drivers. Each of the new Hasdec 3 cameras can cover 4 lanes and they're mounted on the kerb end of the gantries, so are more difficult to spot - unless you know where to look.

I'm heading south on the M1 later this morning; cruise control set to 50 - on my satnav - so 54mph on the speedo and I'm sure there'll be quite a few vehicles passing me.
