What kind of people enjoy this sport anyway?????  >:(
The rich, upper class toffee nosed Hooray Henry, chinless wonders who think it is " sport " to hunt down a fox and tear it to pieces for fun. And the thrill of the chase apparently.
I can understand very easily the farmers right to protect his livestock from Foxes, and even dogs for that matter.
There is a regular presence of a fox family at Stonegravels bus depot - the engineering dept sometime in the past I was told put dog food out for them. I have seen them myself. One came trotting past me the other week in the dark unaware that I was there.
Generally I don't see what harm they do, in an urban environment. They are scavenging for food - simple. Town centres are full of half eaten discarded pizzas etc in the early mornings after the revellers have finally gone home.
I dont agree with the bloodsport though.
Have foxes numbers dramatically increased since the hunting ban? I guess not, but don't know for sure.

Although the people who run the hunts are well off it would be a mistake to assume that all the followers are.

Foxes will kill birds, but then again so do cats. This is nature. Human beings are supposed to have evolved beyond this.

It's up to farmers to secure their pens from wild animals, though I suppose a few bullets cost less than a good fence.

Some of the posts on here perfectly demonsrtate my point. Nothing to do with cruelty, and all to do with the "sports of toffee nosed toffs", and no-one thinks fishing is cruel.?
Either sheer hypocrisy or outright dishonesty in my view. I've nothing against anyone having a view against toffs, but don't pretend you care about the foxes!

The topic is actually urban foxes - but as you ask - yes I do think fishing is cruel and scary for the fish. One of my most upsetting times was during a holiday we went out on a small boat --- I didn't realise it was to fish. We were given lines to dangle over the sides as the boat circled round. Seeing the caught fish struggling for their last breath on the ships deck really upset me --- I would never go again! :'(

I contemplated asking Kent if I could rename and move this topic.
I confess I think it was me that drifted off topic.

Another famous carp. 45 years old, and caught about 50 times.

When is the last time you ate Fish & Chips.
I dont fish - cant understand why people do apart from the relaxation, but is fishing as a sport crueller than wholesale fishing when they are dragged up in nets in their hundreds and then die to be later eaten by you and me?
Is this more humane than fishing? At least some of them get thrown back.
Nature is cruel by definition - the survival of the fittest all the way through the food chain.
Hypocritically we all eat food which is slaughtered one way or another to keep our bellies full.
Me too. Just had a roast beef dinner. The Cow was lovely thanks.

Nail on the head Scimitar.

Just to add to the general overview... When kids go on their first hunt they often get initiated by "blooding", where the huntsman smears blood of a fresh killed fox on the child's forehead or cheeks.
I started out with nothing and I've still got most of it left.

k4Blades --- it's more the 'way' foxes are run down and torn apart whilst still living which most people would find difficult - nat instigated by nature - but humans (well they think they are)
I ate pig today and yes that was lovely as well --- did won't cow - but couldn't be bothered to dig to the bottom of the freezer

As I said many ordinary working class people follow hunting. I'm not make a class issue of it but on a party political point of view the statistics showed for themselves that virtually all the MPs against the repeal were Labour or LibDem (signatures on EDMs don't lie.)
