Broadband Connection
« on: February 13, 2012, 11:51:23 AM »
My connection is getting slower  - anyone have a good connection in the Chesterfield area?

I've complained several times, but just keep getting fobbed off with excuses.  >:(
I started out with nothing and I've still got most of it left.

I had mine coming in the house and through an extension upstairs.  That extension (so it turns out) reduced my speed a long way.  So if you are running through an extension, try it directly to the router.

Its now plugged in the main port directly to the router (via filter) and im getting 7mb instead of 2mb.  However Orange are adamant that my line only supports up to 2mb and they cant explain why im getting more than that.

Might be worth doing line checks on www.speedtester.bt.com

Im still in 2 minds whether to go to Sky for their 'unlimited' package (although the unlimited is a little white lie)  They do all the work including the line transfer from your current provider.  All you have to do is plug in your new router on the activation date and away you go (apparently)

Im a bomb technician.  If you see me running, try and keep up

A while ago I experienced problems and  I too was told to try not to run any extensions in the house as that would affect the routers performance. I now have my router connected to the main socket and regularly get in excess of 13mps (BT) - and, no I don't live next door to the exchange.

I'm not using any extensions and I run via ethernet to the router.

I used to get great speeds - 15m was normal - but now it crawls.

I'm with O2.
