Chesterfield Royal Hospital Goes Into lockdown
« on: February 15, 2012, 02:43:01 PM »
Just read on the Chesterfield Post website that the Royal Hospital has closed its doors to visitors of all adult inpatient wards to stop the spread of the Norovirus.

Apparently this is not a hospital acquired infection, just something that is spreading elsewhere but can be very serious to patients who are quite ill already.

Read the full story here - http://www.chesterfieldpost.co.uk/public_services/hospital_medical/hosp_med_00000118.html

If you are worried about this violent sickness and diarrhoea bug,  call the NHS Direct phone service - do not go to your doctor's surgeries as this could also spread the illness.

I started out with nothing and I've still got most of it left.

It's a bad time of year for this virus and a terrible one to get. A sensible decision of the Calow hospital

As Old Cruser and I are well aware Norovirus is an issue on cruise ships where people are confined together for periods of time and routine hygiene issues are sometimes forgotten. The hospital have also closed four wards to new admissions and have other beds and rooms empty that could be treating patients.

Having the wards closed is a bit rough for the poor patients, especially those who are lonely and look forward to their visitors.   But of course, better in the long run to be able to stop the virus quickly.

My poor MIL had it for almost a month a few years ago (before she passed away).  She survived it quite well surprisingly, but then my husband got it through visiting and was off work for 2 weeks!

Closing the wards is the best idea  :)

Got to agree Gert.
But what I've read from various sources, it's the visitors that took it into the hospital ??

i think its a matter of who knows to be honest, they might not know the source. Would they let patients out like discharging them or what? Just wanna know how long ive gotta go up feeding the cat lol

Yes they letting her out this morning so can't be that bad, they letting patients home which is the main thing i was worried about.
So all seems to be well, from what i gather giving stronger tablets and hoping the stones will pass. Other than that all is grand.

Agreed! We had it on one cruise it's horrible but we had to stay in our rooms.  Most of the ship went down with it and we were told 'a passenger from the back of the aircaft Manchester flight had taken it on board - so they had done their homework' - these days I carry one of those antibacterial bottles in my bag and use it through the day
One funny incident came out of it though (well it made us chuckle) I went into the bathroom, hubby was in bed and on coming back out was told by hubby that '2 men in white overalls had been into the room and sprayed it' ! We expected seeing a contaminated sign on the door when we finally went out  ;D

Just spent 24 hours on a saline and electrolite drip because of this.  Because of the squites I was so dehydrated I was in danger of serious illness.

Get well soon Mycul  ;) - apparently they're keeping the wards shut for a bit longer (well, according to Peak FM - so that may be a bit of fantasy!)
