Britain' streets
« on: June 17, 2016, 09:57:38 AM »
Since 2010 general election the Police force funding has been cut each year  theirs less Police on the beat than ever before. I work at Sheffield I'm going to use this city as a example of the effects of these cuts and lack of will to tackle anti social problems  that have gotten out of hand. To get to my place of work I travel into Sheffield by bus then I have to get another this bus stops at Pond Street which runs into Fitzalan Square. The square has a road island with seating  this along with the old Post Office steps is a popular hang out for drunks and druggies. Over the last two years IV seen fights and drugs openly taken or injected in full view of everyone. Just recently these people have started to chase after female students , the old Post Office has been turned into student accommodation the drunks are asking them for sex if refused they get nasty. Another area popular for drunks is West Street  and it's many off licenses in fact the council have granted a new license for one despite the fact the area has regular issues with street fights. But the problems don't finish their just recently ' Sheffield Star'  ran a article about Sheffield school's it made interesting reading for example between 2011 and 2016 their were 99 cases of where pupils had headbutted their teacher the article also said when Police did a stop and search they found knifes and guns on pupils even a  DIY saw was found locals parks are regularly checked for knifes as many are used as hideaways for weapons. Theirs been a notable rise in stabbings just like the recent one on Shiregreen and a few shootings often related to waring drug dealers.Even the Police are not safe just recently several Police cars have had their patrol cars damaged. I'm sure theirs plenty that goes on that is never reported like A+E doctor's and nurse's attacked by drunks who often become regulars taking up beds which others with genuine needs are left waiting . Some might say this just normal for a large city perhaps but these problems are getting a lot worse with each passing year and no doubt repeated in other cities. I believe it's time for a major rethink on law and order and how sentencing is carried out these problems need addressing now it will take time but we can't allow these problems to grow.
Ex Newbold ex Arbourthorne, Sheffield now sunny Dronfield.
