The dreaded car b/down insurance & insurance

Well it's that time of year again.

Breakdown insurance. Been with Green Flag a few years now and they've always put up the yearly premium but always after a phone call telling them I could get it cheaper they always matched the other quote {or within a couple of quid}.
This time their quote was £30 more than last year, wanted over £80 so looked online and found one for £47 with more benefits so rang G/F and they said for the kind of cover I've found their equivalent would cost me £112!!!!! so I got a new policy from Start rescue with everything I needed plus and with the new customer discount offered I paid £41.

My car insurance is not due till end of May so waiting to see what the renewal quote will be before deciding. Same with these, I ring after getting other quotes and they've always matched the lower quote. I'm a little worried as I put my details on a compare site to check prices and the company I'm already with wanted £450 and last year I paid them £220, I think the lowest on the compare site was Tesco at £250 but their reviews are cr*p, all the descent ones seemed to be around the £300 mark, so I'll just wait and see.

Car insurance renewal....2022/23 was £220 this years renewal is £298... NOT paying that.

 So went online {go compare site} and got one £45 cheaper {and more extras} so rang my insurance company and as usual they said "O.k. lets see if we can match it" THIS time I said don't bother, I've already gone with the other company. I'm sick of playing this game because if they can match the new quote, and they always do, then that's the quote I should have been offered first.

I am now quite a fan of these comparison sites...despite the awful tv adverts...

I use the comparison sites all the time especially for car insurance.
My breakdown cover is now due, so I'm going to get RAC(my current) to compete and beta the AA and the others.

Fly give Start rescue a try, you'll get new customer discount, a few extra benefits and the reviews are pretty good.

Having said that as with ALL types of insurance you only find out how good the company is when you claim.

I've been with Spire insurance for a few years now for car insurance, but i do get quotes from comparison sites aswell. I sometimes tell them that i've been online & tell them the quotes, not sure if it makes a difference, but Spire insurance has always managed to beat the cheapest comparable quote from comparison sites.

Been looking for car insurance on the sites for 2024/5 having heard tales of premiums skyrocketing, still waiting for my insurers renewal quote to see what that is as I paid £254 last year, here's just a few approximations:-

L.V. = £480
Hastings = £600
Saga = £470
Tesco = £335
and last but not least Aviva wanted over £1000!!!

The cheapest was on Moneysupermarket site, can't remember the name off hand but their quote was £265 so if all else fails I'll just go with them, is there any wonder people drive round with no insurance especially if they only have a cheap motor.

Got my renewal policy today and as expected it had gone up, a bit eye watering to find the new price hike as almost 50% above last years price.

Went back on Moneysupermarket and got an almost identical policy for £268...only £14 more than I paid to AA last year.
Rang the AA to cancel my renewal policy and got the "Well lets see if we can get a better price for you" and I told them not to bother, if they can reduce the quote why wasn't I sent THAT quote instead?

We'll see how good THIS company is.

Fortunately I don't have that problem anymore but I agree with you - they should offer a fair price straight away instead of trying it on -

I did hear of some countries, Russia for example, the state pays your insurance for you.

That's probably why they are such cr*p drivers, they don't have to put their hands in their pockets after an accident.

Back on the merry go round of car insurance sites.

Still waiting for my insurers renewal quote, been looking on other sites for quotes, only trouble is when you get one that gives you a list of companies and their quotes if you leave it for a day and then go back the majority have increased their prices. Having put in my details each of these sites has a quote from the company I'm with, the price ranges from £25 more than last year to £50 more.

Martin Lewis says premiums have dropped by 16% this year compared to last so no one should be paying more for like to like policies, yeah try telling that to the companies, I found one the other day went back the next day it had increased by £25, went back today and another £10 had been added, this is where these companies have you if you don't sign up as soon as you see it they just put up the price.
Even tried Direct Line their cheapest quote was £100 more than I paid last year with only half the benefits, their top quote with all the benefits  was £250 more than last year, followed very closely by Admiral then Saga.

I've stayed with the same firm this year for car insurance.
It's come down £80.
