The Irish have won their first medal at the Olympics.
It was in the 100m downhill swimming.

And another! Bradley Wiggins strikes again. :)
I started out with nothing and I've still got most of it left.

We were at the Calow hospital this week - the tele was on and staff more interested in watching olympics than working Isn't it amazing how people soon become experts on the diving etc!
Whilst on hols we spoke to several couples who lived in the area of the olympics - all were dreading it and the chaos it would probably cause with road closures

Cycling: We should win gold in the Men's road race (Mark Cavendish) and the Time Trial (Bradley Wiggins)
We should get another 3 in the velodrome and one in BMX.
3 in athletics
4 in swimming
2 in rowing
2 in sailing
1 in gymnastics
3 in boxing

Therefore at least 20
Think they will have to go some to match the Beijing total of 47 in total though

Care to revise your figures? :)

It made great viewing yesterday.

Although we did keep up the great British tradition in football of losing the quarter final on penalties

Actually No!
The rowing is finished, the cycling all but. Murray should win one gold today maybe two. I don't know where many more golds are coming from.

Total, probably about right, but the mix...
4 in swimming, actually no golds
3 in boxing a bit optimistic,
I think we'll get more in the velodrome.

The swimmers under performed considering the amount of money they have had pumped into their sport.
The pessimist in me didn't believe we could do as well in the Velodrome as we did in Beijing, mea culpa.

It wouldn't be if that were true but there are probably other Americans, Chinese, etc who didn't even make their team but were still capable of beating the times our swimmers put up.
