Politics / And so it begins
« Last post by Sorastro on May 24, 2024, 01:11:16 PM »
For the next six weeks the worlds your lobster. The electorate will be promised the earth and I'm afraid the vast majority will fall for it.

Rishi Sunak....Never trusted him, never will.
Keir Starmer...Never trusted him, never will.
Ed Davey....... Never trusted him, never will......... ad infinitum

I've mentioned this before, as I was approaching voting age I sought advice from my dad {as I assume most did} he being a Labour supporter all his life it wasn't difficult to see which way he voted, but even he was disillusioned then and here we are 60 years later and we're still no nearer having a decent government. He only passed on two pieces of knowledge:-
1/  The only good politician is a dead one..... at least you know where they are and what they're up to any time of the day.
2/ I would chop my right arm off before I ever voted conservative.

Apart from those words of wisdom politics, when I was growing up, was a subject in our house that was never discussed, never a need to discuss it. We were a family of 7 siblings and over the years we never knew each others preferences because we never asked, I only found out {by accident} that my two eldest brothers always voted Conservative.
I've been married for over 50 years and I STILL don't know who my wife votes for mainly because I've never asked, and why should I, it's none of my business.

It wouldn't hurt for the voters to re visit past decades and find out how many promises were either kept or broken by successive governments then make up your minds.

I filled in the questionnaire they are circulating but ut gives no chances to give what could be used as constructive points about the Town centre - obviously they don't want to know!!

Called in town yesterday to visit the bank and walking through the market place where there was a few stalls set up I kid you not there were more dossers and winos on the market than genuine shoppers.
It's obvious that these people put off shoppers so why are they allowed to hang around they seem to be everywhere.

This show should be sued under the trade descriptions act.

I do not watch this drivel as a rule but I usually catch glimpses of it whilst changing channels and something may just catch my eye.
Why is it referred to as "Britain's" got talent when there are many "acts" from Japan, Taiwan and all points West.

I actually watched one act the other day just to see what he was going to do he was from Japan, puerile is the only word I can use to describe his act and the crowd loved him, he even got that stupid golden buzzer.
If you want something to do rather than watch that programme, paint a wall and sit and watch it dry.

It's always been hit and miss, I never did get to the bottom of it.
They are 'on', the rest of it must be up to Google mail which it uses.

I have always maintained that the donut r/about would have made the perfect bus/coach station, lets face it go down the escalators in the precinct and there's next to nothing on Beetwell street just bus stops for wino's to throw up in and the homeless to kip in, plus the Tontine road coach station is was never very well designed and is a death trap especially during bad weather.
Just imagine all the buses you want in one place, no stupid bus stops dotted round the town, no wondering if your stood at the correct stop, possibly room for a taxi rank as well, I mean even Clay Cross, Alfreton and Mansfield have got far superior bus stations to us... no wonder it's because we haven't got one.

If the bus station had been put on the donut it would have transformed the top end of town almost overnight, no empty Elder Way no empty old Council offices the list goes on.

I worked for Fishers Taxis in 1971. My taxi was a black Morris Oxford number 195. We were identified by the last two numbers of our registration place, so I was 95

Mine was 50.
I remember Harry Brown getting a telling off one day as, at the beginning of his shift, he was talking to a passenger and as he was a little hard of hearing turned down the volume on his radio, unfortunately he forgot to turn it back up again and spent most of the day just picking fares up from the L.M.S. and wondering why the radio traffic was quiet.
