Attempted child snatch in Staveley
« on: April 25, 2012, 01:33:29 PM »
Just read on the DT website about a bloke attempting to grab a 10 year old girl on Monday.

Lets hope someone saw something and they catch this guy before he does some harm.

Bloody hell, its 2 minutes up the road from us, our kids are too small to go out on their own unless its just in front of the house but we will have to be vigilant.

Whats really scary is that I know someone who lives near this park who's son is in the same class as our son, so about 5 or 6 years old. And the little lad is always out on his own, no where near his own house. He's been down to ours before without his mother knowing where he was, and we know that once he turned up at nursery on his own, they had to call the police to take him home. I don't believe in wrapping your kids up in cotton wool, but you should still be responsible for them.

Having said that, whoever did this is some sort of lowlife. What sort of person tries to snatch a child, the girl should have kicked him in the balls....hard.

Well he certainly didn't just want to buy her an ice cream K4B, I take it the girl didn't know this person then or the police wouldn't be door knocking, sometimes family rifts can result in abduction can't it.
Pleased she is safe though.

Smart kid to kick and run. I hope she isn't too traumatised by the experience.

What's alarming is that when I was  a lad we played miles from home, did some really reckless things (like putting pennies on railway lines) and 'strangers' never entered our heads. Was it just as risky in the late 50s or has society become sicker in recent decades?

I think the media, tv, newspapers, and then internet, made a larger audience more aware.
Plus we have DNA tests too nowadays.
I bet there was more of it going on years ago, less chance of people getting caught.

Police release photofit image of man wanted in connection with this.

The man was described as being white and in his early 30s. He is between 5ft 8ins and 5ft 10ins tall with short dark hair. He wore a white t-shirt, dark blue jeans and dark coloured shoes.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Chesterfield CID using the non-emergency number 101.
