Saltergate Football Ground
« on: May 16, 2012, 08:11:22 PM »
Sad site today as I walked past the old ground, it is being smashed up big style.

I knew its time had come, but it still felt really sad.

Hey ho...  :(
I started out with nothing and I've still got most of it left.

Thanks, Pete. With the input of a few nutters like me it'll be the most photographed football ground demolition in history, although from only two vantage points. We'll have three hundred pics of the side of the stand from Cross St, with a nog-off digger in the way. The lights will be the thing to see; if anyone hears of a date for their demise, let me know. Odd to think that the bungalows on St Margaret's Drive will be getting the evening sun for the first time since they were built - and that view across the field from St Maggie's Drive to Compton St hasn't been seen since 1899!

Saw the ground yesterday and felt so sad about the demise :( Gone are the days when I lived on Compton St and was able to listen through the window to the match, also attended some matches too there. Hmmph

Pete, are you getting fed up with the noise coming from those giant mechanical woodpeckers?  ;)

@Stuart - I'd check how much Pete is charging as an admission fee before you take him up on his offer!!  >:

I took Pete up on his very kind offer this morning. I had the benefit of a cracking view, and Pete got to watch me climb up to it. Great comedy.

Here's the link to the Flickr page with six of today's on:

It's quite a sight. As the stand comes down, folk on Compton Street are waking up, looking out their back windows and thinking "Which silly chuff left that town there?"  ;D
