So the main entrance will be via Newbold Rd, or the road that disapears off left of top picture.
Which just happen's to look like the estate where the houses are going to be built.
Where does traffic coming down Saltergate go. Through Saltergate health clinic via that new rd, turn left before the new development, and then onto Newbold Rd, via the housing estate ???????
How does traffic from top pic, bottom right, get onto Sheff Rd ?
Up Saltergate, turn right through the health centre bla bla

I see Holywell St on the new plan as two-way. Saltergate traffic will go to the end of Saltergate - by the Blue Bell - before turning right or left onto Holywell St. Traffic coming up Holywell St will keep the new development on their left as they pass the Saltergate and Brewery St junctions on their way to Sheffield Road. I might be wrong...

Looks like a great scheme.
Can only see three problems:
1. Which retailers will fill the space? I have it on good authority Asda have withdrawn and Debenhams have gone elsewhere  = no anchors = no development?
2. The road system looks inadquate to cope with this already congested area?
3. What will happen to car parking during the construction phase - if we lose the donut, multi-storey and all day parks it could kill the town centre (is car parking Chesterfield's biggest problem?)?
Be interesting to see who comes forward - hope they do or the NG will spend another 15 years in the planning.

Salter I agree the road system doesn't look adaquate does it, small squashy roads.

As someone else has said --- where is the parking space to be? It's quite a built up area, are they to knock buildings down around it?

If you look at the artists impressions it appears some of the parking will be under the supermarket a la T****.

Undercroft Parking Access.

Unless everything is built in stilt's, parking will be underground.

Not if its linked to the supermarket, who no doubt, will want restrictions so that it can only be used by their customers, or time limited, hardly a public car-park.

Nor is it a good use of energy with all those lights on for 24 hours a day, every day. The space would be better used by having the parking on top of the supermarket, you can also make more storeys that way, and there for more spaces.......bugger, common sense sticking its oar in again.

If you include the Brittannia private site there are over 800 car parking spaces.
Somehow on more or less the same site (plus the Allen and Orr wood yard and Jackson Shipley)
They are going to build major foodstore, retail outlets and restaurants, a cinema, 80 bed hotel, 85 homes, offices plus an outdoor performance area.
And still have the same number of car parking spaces?
Bearing in mind that 500 odd of those spaces are in a multi storey?

Parking = 750 spaces (same as current) all below the development - if you shop at the supermarket you will get limited free parking - otherwise you pay (as current).
Where does the £50m come from (don't say the 40,000 square foot supermarket!), can we really afford it and do we really need it?
