Remember it well. I'd just been fired by the borough but I was still in contact with the drainage lads who were getting (pardon the pun) deluged with calls for help. The public couldn't understand why they couldn't get sandbags out to them. Errr because the roads are flooded and the traffic is gridlocked??????
I had to get to Lockoford Lane to pick my missus up who'd walked to a friends house from the town hall. Couldn't get out of Hasland via Spital or the by pass, tried to go via Calow and Brim but got stuck in traffic.
Ended up coming back and going via Storforth Lane Walton, Loundsley Green and Stonegravels. Took nearly 3 hours. Ironically the return trip took 10 minutes!
Staff at Sainsburys ended up staying late and serving refreshments to motorists stuck on the roads for 6-8 hours.

Only a couple of days after, I remember Pete videod it.

Took me 2 hours to get home on what is normally a 3 mile journey. Should have stayed at work really and helped out but I had a dental appointment. Never made it.

I was having my hair cut on Brampton when it all got out of hand so I grabbed my video camera and shot this

Brampton Floods
I started out with nothing and I've still got most of it left.

I still can't believe its been 5 years, memories are still rather fresh, partner walked home on day of flood where you were shooting pete, along chatsworth road then chester st. and at 6ft 2 tall he was having to wade though as it was way up the legs (water) hence him phoning me when i was on break.
What i remember is listening to the radio and contemplating going to work ;o
took and hour to get in 4 to get back....i spent an hour at work lol
