Should the UK go to war with Syria?
« on: June 24, 2012, 06:15:06 PM »
Just read about the countries currently supplying arms to the Syrian rebels and the writer suggests that we may go to war with Syria. Anyone think that is a good idea?
I started out with nothing and I've still got most of it left.

It would be no less logical than any other countries we've got involved in but it's none of our business and we should keep out.

The obvious answer is no but you have to wonder how the politicians can morally justify the war in Libya and then not going to  Syria

Perhaps we might call in on the way back from Afghanistan.

Full respect to the guys and gals in the armed forces.
It's not a career I ever considered. I went to the pit/mines.

It's about time this country gave them some recognition for their efforts  :(

We have meddled in other countries and lost our soldiers, it's time Britain kept out of all these countries fights.
I know an ex Northern Ireland soldier - years on he's still suffering, concentrate on defending our own country if need need cos these countries our government have stuck their noses in would help us defend ours would they!

I suppose this all boils down to what do you mean when you refer to defending our country.
The politicians and 'strategic thinkers' would argue that being in places like Iraq and Afghanistan is an attempt to keep us safe from terrorist attacks. That places like Libya and Iraq again are vital to secure the oil that keeps the country moving.
Of course the counter argument is that places like Canada, Switzerland and New Zealand keep their noses out in the first place and don't suffer these attacks and threats.
