Council lets down the town?
« on: July 24, 2012, 06:25:01 PM »
Is our council allergic to using publicity? Once again, Medieval Market this time, an event happens in town that I only find out about after it has happened.

I go into town virtually every day and yet I have not seen one poster advertising the event.

Where do they advertise, if they do at all?
I started out with nothing and I've still got most of it left.

Was advertised on PeakFm this morning about 8.45am.
First thing I knew about it, and I work in town.
PS. From a taxi drivers point of view, today has been cr*p !!

But I don't listen to Peak FM. Is it a prerequisite if you want to hear what the council is doing?

Ask the council.

That's exactly what I meant - no idea about publicity. They put it in the most unpopular rag Chesterfield has ever known.

Perhaps Destination Chesterfield could have put it on the bottom part of the town's new sign's a week or so ago  :P
I'd have seen it then, and posted it on here  ;)

That's wildly inaccurate Pete - what you should have put was "They put it in one of the most unpopular rag Chesterfield has ever known."

I refer to the 'Twist' magazine!!  Yp

To be serious I'm with you all the way on this Pete - how can they (council) attract custom if they don't advertise it widely? What's the saying "You have to speculate to accumulate"??

My Mother -in law and her granddaughter caught the bus in to town for it. they could only stand it for about an hour before they both wanted to come home - too many folks in town - they couldn't get in MacDonalds cos it was too full, and it was too hot into the bargain.
I was on my break at the coach station (there were 4 coaches there) eating my sandwich and overheard a conversation between a family from Rhyl, and one from Blackpool saying that basically it was nothing more, in their opinion, than a glorified car boot sale, and that if they had known that in the first place, they would not have bothered coming.
Apparently buses were packed out this morning - unusually so for a "normal" tuesday.

Derbyshire Times adverts cost a few hundred pounds a time. if an advert went in for every event no doubt there would be criticism of money wasting.

I went into town for the first time in ages yesterday (I need a hair cut)
It was my intention to stay 2-3 hours.
When I realised it was Medieval market day I stayed 40 minutes.

 :)) :))

On a similar vein, have you seen how all these 'live now pay later' stores (eg BrightHouse) stock only high-end and extremely expensive goods? Washing machines costing £400+ when Argos/Currys stock them for half price.

Preying on the short-sightedness/greed of the vulnerable.
