Awful thing to happen, RIP the two policewomen and let's hope the perpetrator gets what's coming to him.

If it's the guy who gave himself up to the police, he's a right thug. It showed him on CCTV throwing a hand grenade...
I started out with nothing and I've still got most of it left.

Yes, tragic, just shows what the Police do on our behalf.
2 females, both un-armed, and it sounds like it was pre-planned and set up. And the image of the guy throwing a grenade into a flat.....they should lock him up and throw away the key.
They are also saying that people in the area were sheltering him, lock them up to.

Got to say I'm a bit puzzled by all this.
This guy has enough about him to make a phone call to the police to lure two officers into a trap.
He proceeds to shoot both of them killing one outright and fatally injuring the second.
He then walks into a police station and gives himself up??????
I really don't get it but then again I suppose I'm not psychotic.

I'm a drunk I go to the pub

If it is proved without a shadow of doubt why do we lock people away for life, surely the best method is to eliminate the problem, the police will soon be carrying guns on a daily basis which may alienate them from normal members of the public and after all nobody derserves to be killed doing their job.

I don't know why, but our leaders seem to admire America - I don't...  ;)

Absolutely, and especially in this case, a couple of young women with most of their lives ahead of them.
I started out with nothing and I've still got most of it left.

I can't praise the Police enough. We are practically alone around the globe in that our officers are unarmed. Many visitors to this country can't believe that we have unarmed police. Two officers responded to an apparent burglary in accordance with police guidelines. Lured in to a trap and killed mercilessly.
This nutter knew what he was doing, and had third party assistance.
I feel so sorry for the families and colleagues of the two officers.
The police themselves in a survey do not think they would be better to be armed. It seems police fatalities happen when they are armed as well - you get shootouts-villain vs police.
By the way, please don't forget the other emergency services, Fire ,Ambulance, because they are also very dedicated people facing funding cuts as well.
You only have one life, so live it & love it, & more importantly LOVE YOURSELF!

I'll never get why 'local lads', 'anywhere, not town', seem to think it's ok to attack firemen trying to do their job.
Why are they seen as the enemy ???

@ Pete I am also mtstified why our government seem to admire America it one of the few countries I have no desire to visit - except as a means to get on a ship of course  ;)

Do we really want be be in a country that has a need for armed police?
I don't - but we may have no choice eventually.

I just can't get my breath!! Dale Cregan is on hunger strike because:

1. He is separated from other inmates as there is a reported bounty on his one remaining eye

2. He is wanting to be relocated to Strangeways to be nearer his family

Think yourself fecking lucky that you're still alive. Just think about what the families of your victims are feeling - your problems are nothing in comparison.
