The Tory Chief Whip Story
« on: September 21, 2012, 11:03:43 PM »
Unfortunately, I cannot report that Andrew Mitchell, the Conservative Chief Whip, called the police "fucking plebs" - three days after the deaths of two young policewomen in Manchester. I'd like to mention that, before his political life, he was an investment banker - you know the ones...

I'd like to say that it is typical of the Tories to be arrogant, condescending and snotty-nosed with a compulsion to hurt anyone of "lesser standing".

But I can't. I'd be accused of constantly attacking the Conservatives and that Labour were even worse.

>> his prejudice against anyone who climbs above "working class" in life.

Funnily enough, you couldn't be further from the truth. I come from a very successful family with at least one local millionaire.

As to Mitchell, when I saw the headlines, I couldn't resist it - However, I was very, very drunk at the time...

I started out with nothing and I've still got most of it left.

Yep this chap would seem to be a bit of a tosser. Calling an officer a pleb is hardly becoming of an mp.  Though I remember a deputy pm once punching somebody in the face ;)

I would like to report that Pete has started a political thread with more forethought than simply having a pop at anything associated with the tories.  I would like to report that Pete has not just made sweeping, hate filled, baseless, derogatory generalisations about an entire political party, based on nothing more than what would appear to be his prejudice against anyone who climbs above "working class" in life.

I can't though, as I would be lying. :)

Or as Prescott put it "pensioner defends himself against young thug"

Imagine if someone on a picket line had made comments to the police that the Tory made

I like Prescott - and if someone threw an egg at me I'd give him a slap.

Seems as though another Tory politician has demonstrated his arrogance, big style.

"An Ilkeston councillor, who made a sick ‘joke’ about the two policewomen shot dead last week in Greater Manchester, has been stripped of his post. Cllr David Stephenson made the comment to the wife of a serving police officer with the Nottinghamshire force.

He reportedly told her ‘If you get 100 points for shooting one policewoman and 200 points for shooting two policewomen, how many do you get for shooting a lawyer?’

But when Sgt Jason Farrar, whose wife was told the joke, contacted Cllr Stephenson he was reportedly told to ‘go away, you silly man’."

At least that one got his marching orders.

Though I do sometimes wonder, sometimes, always LOL

On around 20 of the many hundreds of satellite tv channels tonight there will be one of these "cops with cameras" shows. In all of them, i bet, some half-cut kid will be slung into the back of a van for swearing in a public place.

That (ex) councilor is a right idiot.

Just for the sake of accuracy he's not an ex councillor. He's been sacked by the leader of the council in Erewash from its cabinet but he still remains as a councillor representing Little Hallam.

but he's also now being called on to resign his seat.
He's pointing out that the Chief whip hasn't gone so he shouldn't either.

It gets better....  ::)

Police officers wearing T-shirts emblazoned with the slogan "PC Pleb and Proud" have gathered outside Andrew Mitchell's constituency office, accusing the prime minister of failing to "get to the bottom" of the chief whip's angry outburst.

Officers from three branches of the Police Federation – West Midlands, West Mercia and Warwickshire – congregated at the office in Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham.

"It cannot be right that Mr Mitchell can deny making the comments attributed to him, contrary to the police officer's notes, and yet not come out and say what he did say.

"If he did call police officers plebs, and we have no reason to doubt the integrity of the officers involved, it's just another sign of the disrespect the Conservatives, the once heralded as the party of law and order, show to the police service."

Ahh... Conservative politicians - the gift that keeps on giving. :)
