Danny Baker's Great Album Showdown
« on: February 06, 2013, 08:31:38 PM »
Cracking programme for those of us who liked album music on vinyl albums. Part one (yesterday) concentrated on rock music. Missed it but just caught it on the iplayer. Rest is tonight & tomorrow (BBC4 9pm)

Almost made me sorry for the youngsters today whose attention span often only lasts through individual mp3 tracks.

Some albums were awsome. Every track a classic.
Others used to p me off, I'd not like half the tracks.
Take REM, I had two of their albums. I ripped the tracks I liked and compiled my own CD.

At least nowadays you don't have to buy an album for a certain track.
Not all songs on an album were released as singles.

Purists would say the complete album should be listened to in the right order.

My old ipods (2000 on the first, 4000 on the second) were "Best of..." jukeboxes. MY new one should hold 40000 songs (probably around 5000 albums) and it will be complete albums I put on.
