Queens Park Annex running track
« on: April 14, 2013, 06:12:31 PM »
I'm a bit out of touch with the situation at the moment, but has anyone who runs/ran there expressed an opinion on the proposal? Link?
I started out with nothing and I've still got most of it left.

As far as I'm aware the serious athletes have long since moved to Tupton and general keep fitters either road-run or go to the gym. I stand corrected if anyone says it gets used regularly but it all looks pretty deserted whenever I drive past.

Afraid this is another one of those chicken and egg arguments.
Did the runners move because the track was no longer maintained to a decent standard?
Or was the track allowed to fall into disrepair because the runners moved?

Fact remains that the annexe with its ampitheatre design could be used for a multitude of things.

Well, I still think the ideal solution is to refurb the existing and keep the options open as regards the Annex.

The Annex is a mess, would need a LOT of money spending on it to be any good for events etc

So EVEN in OLYMPIC YEAR it was left to Run itself Down, and people
who where inspired by the Olympics cannot use it because it is
sub-standard.
Was This Done on purpose, I hear people Ask.!

Nothing compared with how much they'll spend if they put the new leisure centre on the annex. Just because some short sighted council folks neglected it doesn't mean it can't be brought back to full working order - if only for the future. Because once its gone, its gone. There aren't any places left where they could create a new one.

An old cine clip of when the Annexe was popular. I can also remember events being held on the concrete track round the cricket pitch.

So can I, the Race for Life uses it every June!!! of course if the Annexe was better maintained it would make a much better finish area than the park does.

I don't recall there being much campaigning to get the running track repaired until now??
