Your most hated road in Derbyshire
« on: June 15, 2013, 08:44:26 PM »
I suppose we all have a road which we don't particulary enjoy driving on - well I do anyway.
Not too sure of it's name but I think it's the Chesterfield Road which leads right down onto the Chatsworth Road and comes out more or less opposite the Peak Village. This road has a spectacular view over the countryside at one particular point but the road down is very steep with tight bends one of which the driver is blind to whats coming up. Going back up isn't much better until you get to the top and it straightens out.
It is I think worse than the Two Dales decent.
I just hate driving on this road - keep left is not in the driving manual for some drivers is it, yet I can get to peak Village from home in 20 mins - much quicker than the Two Dales route as getting out onto the Dale Road can take ages.
So I use it - but hate it!

Sounds like the hill from Beeley Moor down to Rowsley.
Try going up it on a push bike. I managed it 30 years ago, not now LOL.
Yes it's a bit tricky, but not the worst road I know of.

I personally hate the road from Glapwell to the Pleasley roundabout.
Well actually Pleasley to Glapwell. I was travelling that way on my 125cc motorcycle back in 1984.
A lorry coming the other way caused such a draught that it ripped my helmet off my head and deposited in the field.
Lesson learnt. Always fasten your helmet chin strap.

Im not a fan of that one either.  Last time I went that way I nearly had a head on with a chav in a Fiesta who was on the wrong side of the road on a bend.

Personally Im not keen on the road from Shuttlewood to Clowne, a lot is 30mph now and mostly downhill on the way to Clowne, not easy to stay at 30 without your foot on the brakes.
Im a bomb technician.  If you see me running, try and keep up

We nearly had a head on Travelling Clowne to Shuttlewood the other Saturday.
Gawd nows why the prick decided to overtake just as we were coming the other way.
He pulled back over quickly, I nearly threw 'my own car' up the causeway.

A61 Chesterfield to Alfreton, Right from Langer Lane that is difficult to get out of at busy times all the way where it's 50 limit with no room to overtake the large quantity of vehicles going about 35

I hate the poor state of repair, far too many potholes - you tend to feel them more in a 50 year old car - but hey, they'll improve soon; remember Labour's pledge before the local election, that they would spend more on road repairs.

@ Simon a bit like the one I mentioned then - first gear and foot on break going down First/second gear going up (initially) depending on how many/ powered w/chair in the back ( I have a 1.6 estate).

Man woman or woman man don't care as long as they drive sensibly.

Hate Slack Hill in the ice/snow - so pleased I don't have to do that run every day now. Accident there last week wasn't there I am told a taxi driver lost his life  :(

Sadly one of our fellow taxi drivers had a heart attack and died somewhere in that region.
I'm unsure of specific details so didn't post. I don't know if he was actually involved in an accident.

RIP Norman  :(
