Bedroom Tax: Tory MPs claim expenses to get rooms for kids

Twenty-three Conservative MPs who voted in favour of the hated bedroom tax have claimed extra taxpayer’s cash for their SECOND homes so their children can stay over.

Official figures show they raked in nearly £60,000 in Parliamentary expenses between them for family visits – while punishing 660,000 families in social housing who are ruled to have spare rooms.

And guess who is paying for that?

Whilst probably not illegal, it just shows how the system works.
The benefit's me and Our_Lass can claim on our £18,000 wages is £0

Yet 23 MP's / £60,000 = £2608 each, on top of their wages.
What's the average wage of an MP ?

The basic annual salary for an MP from 1 April 2013 is £66,396.  MPs also receive expenses to cover the costs of running an office, employing staff, having somewhere to live in London and in their constituency, and travelling between Parliament and their constituency.

Greed. Total greed. Don't care what party. Greed.
They're a step behind Barristers and bankers. All the people we need and have to pay through the nose for !!!!!

Bedroom tax defeat for Westminster council in landmark case

A housing association tenant in central London has won an appeal against the imposition of the bedroom tax by Conservative-run Westminster city council, in what is thought to be the first such victory in England.

Surinder Lall, who is blind, argued successfully to a tribunal that a room in his flat classified as a second bedroom had never been used as one and had always been where equipment helping him to lead a normal life was kept.

Not heard of this case though but it has to be good and yes Blind/ Partially sighted people do need equipment many don't realise this.

 I have just received a letter today from Natascha Engel who I emailed inviting her to take the Work Capability assessment test on line for Blind people.

I asked her to send her findings on to Parliament.

In her letter she tells me she has written to Dr Paul Litchfield and ask he takes into account the flaws in the WCA experienced by Blind people when putting his review and recommended changes to the assessment before Parliament.

Natascha tells me she will pass on any reply she receives.

Lets hope this stupid, mean spirited policy will be consigned to the dustbin of time sooner rather than later.

 My friend is really going through it at the moment - her GP is not to impressed with ATOS.
They have undone all the medics have helped with.

The whole benefits thing needs stopping and looking at again - I'm not saying completely do away with it as there are people out there who need a kick up the jacksie -

I have had the email today which Natacha Engel has forwarded to me from the WCA Independant Review Team, I can't share it as they have put a copy right on it  However what it is saying is that it is actually being looked at again. Watch this space 

If people keep contacting their Local MP's about what is not right and is not working - (victimisation to me) - they may eventually have to take into account what is being said to them - we have the elections looming so they will want look good -

To me the bedroom tax is right up there with fox hunting as an election topic. It affects a few rather than the many but because they are a vocal few it gets publicity. The only way it is an election issue is if labour can use it as part of a raft of policies to demonstrate the us and them wedge that the Tories are driving but as a policy on its own? Nope.

The number of organisations and charities who are continuing to lobby against the unfair of this makes it an issue in it's self, add the benefits issue there are thousands of people out there who are in big trouble because of this.
I think it will make people more determined to go out and vote against Cameroon - we will have to wait and see

It might make those who were going to vote against him anyway determined to go and vote. It won't make an impact on his core vote and if the economy is buoyant by then it won't make a great deal of difference to the middle England floating voters who elected him last time.
