Pubs to close for 48 hours - for selling to under aged

Naughty!!

Pubs to close for 48 hours due to underage sales Two pubs are to close for 48 hours after they were caught selling alcohol to underage volunteers during a test purchase operation.

11 February 2014

The White Swan at Dronfield and the Whitecotes at Boythorpe, Chesterfield, sold booze to the teenagers for a second time in a three month period.

It is after the most recent operation by Derbyshire police and trading standards on Saturday, January 25 at premises across Chesterfield, Bolsover and North East Derbyshire.

Twelve premises were visited by the volunteers and five failed. £80 fixed penalty notices were issued to all five members who sold the alcohol.

A passive police drugs dog also visited bars and pubs in Chesterfield Town Centre on the same night. Ten people were searched and a 27-year-old man from Chesterfield was arrested on suspicion of possession of MCAT.

The Whitecotes will be closed for 48 hours from 4pm on Friday, February 21 and the White Swan will close for 48 hours from 4pm on Friday, February 28.

Test purchasing operations are carried out on regular occasions throughout the county and further operations will take place in the Chesterfield area in the future.

Underage teenagers were sent into pubs to see if they would be served alcohol?
Sounds like entrapment to me, publican would have a good case for a successful appeal against the licensing authority.

Common practice daughter and son-in-law work in licensing trade, although no longer 'behind the bar', and that's how the police licensing team catch those serving under age kids.

There is no excuse these days as they are supposed to challenge anyone who looks under 25 to produce ID

Not like back in the day when it was easy to get a drink at 16

Have you seen how old some girls look when they've got make up on?

Never known someone young put make up on to look over 25  :))
Yes I know what you mean though. My daughter's 18 and looks 13 to me.

I remember my first 'illegal' drink - bottle of Double Diamond in Queens Park Hotel, aged 16!  :-?

To be serious, when a group of young 'uns come in a pub and start ordering drinks, it's difficult to keep an eye on anyone ordering drinks for someone else who is under-age - whilst 'guessing' the age of the person you're serving. And I'm not defending the pubs in question, just trying to say how difficult it can be.

Times have changed.
Me, 14 with a paper round, I couldn't afford drugs.
Wasn't interested TBH. They scare me then and still do.

So you admit it's entrapment, a practice that is illegal in some countries.

It's been done for years though hasn't it, they used to come into the shop where I worked wanting to buy fags. We were always instructed to ask for proof of age, however like Alsatian says some look much older so it's easy to be conned. I'm presuming from what Slacker says though that they are extremely young looking people who go into the pubs?

As for me I was also going into pubs at 16 with mums sister and her hubby so not hiding it from family - used to drink cherry B's back then Yuk!
Couldn't stomach them now
