New Pound Coin
« on: March 19, 2014, 10:04:39 AM »
In 2017 we are changing to a 12 sided pound coin, which will be supposedly difficult to copy.
Implications of what this will effect though is substantial when given some thought.
Vending machines ticket machines for such a car parking etc slot machines etc.
Wonder what the cost will be to replace or convert these.

It's been likened to a 3d bit (whatever one of those was!!  >; )

I wouldn't think there was much of problem with dodgy £1 coins - how would you get rid of them?

And how much will it cost to make the new style?
I started out with nothing and I've still got most of it left.

Good point Pete, apart from the cost of changing machines to take them there is the cost of making them.
Can they melt the old ones down once called in and make more new ones.

I don't think it's that straightforward - isn't the new coin a different mixture of metals?
I started out with nothing and I've still got most of it left.

There's a helluva problem with duff £1 coins; you've probably all handled one in the last month without knowing it.

There's always been a problem with them.  It was just to a greater or lesser degree at times.  I know stuff but can't divulge.  Sorry!

Ive handles many a fake pound coin when I worked at morrisons, they are much lighter than the normal and you can scratch off the lettering,
Not sure if i like the new style pound coin. but I guess its something we will get used to. I guess in time the current pound will end its circulation when the new ones come out? If so im making sure i keep one.
