Many a customer of mine have asked the same question.
Why is a Sat Nav possibly becoming part of the taxi knowlwdge test.
If you haven't got a basic clue about the area, you shouldn't be working there either !

I once had a taxi from our house in the town centreish to Brimington - I had to talk him through every turn. He was not a local.
I started out with nothing and I've still got most of it left.

Sorry. It's wrong. If you bought a product that wasn't fit for purpose, you can get your money back.
Why should a taxi be any different !!

Anyone working/serving the public needs to speak the countries language, it should become part of the interview.

Farage last week on hospitals having staff who can't speak English said - get rid of them

The same goes for anywhere.

If (for example) I moved to France and wanted to work, the chances are it would be a French speaking company so I would have to learn the language.  The same should apply in every country and not just being able to speak enough of the language to 'get by'

I also feel that in public in England, only English should be used, people who dont speak it could be saying anything and most people would be none the wiser.

I very rarely use a taxi but a good example could be the one we had back from the latest night out, he could speak English - sort of - but it was difficult to make out what he was saying plus he didnt listen anyway.  How many times did he ask Fly how much he charged from Town to Boza at night.
