The Boythorpe has re-opened
« on: February 14, 2012, 05:35:02 PM »
Mr Gert and me went for a lunch today at the newly reopened Boythorpe.  The people who are in there now are Sue and Roger Bradley who come from Inkersall and until recently had The Hop Flower.

The pub is part of a Meet and Eat franchise, so what you get is standard pub grub, but I have to say it was all rather nice.  I only had a jacket spud with tuna mayo but it was a reasonable price (don't ask me - I've forgotten now) and Mr Gert had Open Cauliflower and Cheese Pie with chips and salad. The two meals came to about £7.50.

The pub has been completely refurbished and looks smart and comfortable.  Modernised quite a bit compared to it's previous dingy interior, with nice little touches around such as table lamps and bookshelves.  There were two TV screens set to a music channel but they were playing softly and didn't interfere with conversation in any way.  Mr Gert ventured into what was the old tap room for a nosey round and reported that there is a pool table in there and two arm chairs as big as thrones.  The Royal type I hasten to add, not the other kind!  Which actually leads me to the fact that the loos have also undergone a refurb and now sport pristine white tiles and sage green woodwork. A world away from how they were before which for me was 'reluctant use only'.

I'd be happy to go again and sample a steak next time.  Daughter had one last week and pronounced it really nice.

If you decide to pay a visit, can you post your honest verdict on here please?  I know Sue and Roger would like to hear some feedback.

 :)

Let's hope it's a good venture for them  :)

I too wish them well. :)

For many years that was one of my locals (other was the Furnace on Goyt Side) and I spent many happy hours there - even used to play there when I was younger...  ;)

Last time I called in it was not a very friendly atmosphere.
I started out with nothing and I've still got most of it left.
