A bit of a quandary
« on: January 08, 2026, 08:14:36 PM »
Having been to a funeral today, the service ended with the usual donations box put near the exit this one in aid of Ashgate Hospice.

Prior to going I had perused this week's D.T. In it was the ongoing saga of the state of Ashgate hospice's finances and the fact good staff are being laid off whilst board members collect in excess of £60 + grand a year {with one on over £100 grand} and I had initially made up my mind not to donate.
Unfortunately this put me in a bit of a quandary, do I walk past the box like a tight ar*e or do I donate not knowing if it will get where it's going, needless to say I donated but it was through clenched teeth.

Just makes you wonder if any of the other donations over the years helped or just lined pockets, I give to charities via their boxes but I'm afraid Ashgate Hospice is now well down the pecking order... which is a shame.
I am not a pessimist, I just help them out when they're busy.

I understand exactly what you mean.
I asked them if I sponsored the name a Star would the Hospice get all of the sponsor money. The answer - they will get some of it-
It's wrong the Board members need to cough up with a good donation or claim less

Well done! My youngest brother passed away in the Hospice and my other brother and his family did the sparkle walk for two years to help the Hospice.
