English Food
« on: May 13, 2012, 05:30:16 PM »
Just had a geat weekend away in Manchester, meeting up with the forum members of a board we started over 10 years ago focused on online marketing and search engine optimisation. A pretty mixed bunch of folks of all ages and tastes.

We had Armenian food on Saturday evening and Tapas on the Friday. During the day we snacked on the foods of many different countries. All were rich, tasty, interesting, spicy, complicated, weird, horrible, fantastic etc etc.

But on the way home my mate and I stopped off at the Wanted Inn at Sparrowpit in the Peak to read the sunday papers whilst waiting for a typical sunday roast. And I have to say we both enjoyed that meal as much or more than what we ate in Manchester.

We both had a superb weekend with exceptional food, but good old English classics like the full English breakfast and the sunday roast, made with fresh ingredients - mmmm - lovely! :)
I started out with nothing and I've still got most of it left.

Good to hear you enjoyed your weekend.
I love the roast beef dinner and trimmings but will try other foods from different countries whereas my hubby is strictly steak and chips or meat and two veg!

Bridget St. John? She sang a song called Sparrowpit.

We had a number of meals, including Sunday roast, at Molly Malones bar whilst we were in Benidorm - lovely!  :)

That name seems to ring a bell though wiki lists her as a Londoner. Maybe she lived in the Peak District at some time

I've nicked this off the Grauniad, because it made me laugh. A discussion about the "Full English" breakfast included the following observation:

Can't speak for the full English, but in the 1970s, a greasy spoon near King's Cross station advertised "Full Scottish breakfast – 50p". This consisted of a mug of tea, a bacon roll, two "wee Regal" cigarettes and a copy of the Daily Record.
