A message for the British Media
« on: August 05, 2012, 08:32:07 PM »
Just saw this on Twitter - just about sums up the media these days...

I started out with nothing and I've still got most of it left.

It's going round Facebook; couldn't agree more. too many people want fame for fame's sake rather than be known for a talent whether in sport or music

The Britsh media exists to sell papers and magazines.
They fill those papers and magazines with what their readers want to read.
Would be rather stupid and pointless for them to do anything else.
So if those publications are filled with articles and photographs of people like Jordan, Peter Andre, Jodie Marsh, and has beens or never were's from reality TV programmes, whose fault is it?

The other problem is this.
Jessica Ennis et al get up at stupid o'clock in the morning, train hard for hours on end, are very careful about what they eat, sacrifice any sort of social life and end up with a gold medal and 5 minutes of fame once every 4 years.
Jordan is still out clubbing at stupid o'clock, the most strenous thing she does is file her nails, she eats and drinks pretty much what she wants and so far she's had about 16 years of 'fame' and is allegedly worth £45m.
Who are the current generation really going to want to follow as an example?:
I'm not an Alcoholic. They go to meetings
I'm a drunk I go to the pub

Totally agree with you Jon - but it's hard to admit that a large percentage of the British public are morons...  :-[

Saw a program once where a lot of girls' interviewed ambition was to marry a footballer and/or go on Big Brother!

Maybe we should educate kids better.

Agree with both of you.
The other thing is how the media want to "sex up" the girls involved.
Of course, they are full of the medal winners at the moment because they want to be associated with that success, but over the past few weeks there have been glamour shots of Ennis, Pendeleton, and the like. Why can't they be admired for their attributes, not their "attributes", and in 6 months time everyone will have moved on.
Most of those people fawning over Jessica on Saturday night will struggle to name the 7 events of the heptatholon in a few months.

But as you say, we get what we deserve, and it seems most of the country are morons.
(Anyone know what the sales figures are for The Sun on Sunday, after "public outrage" closed  News of the World.)

But well done, Jess. She, and they, should be the true role models.

They'll be the ones who elected the Tories because Cameron was nicer looking than Brown

Sadly not. Not saying massive numbers but I remember people being interviewed saying what a nice man he was (& Clegg) but Brown didn't come across as having much charisma

Wasn't the same said for Blair, in fact, isn't that why Labour wanted Blair as leader when they could have gone Brown in the first place.

I seem to remember, could be wrong of course, that Blair and Brown decided between themselves who would go after the leadership, not the party itself.

Wasn't the deal struck in a restaurant?

Yes, thats how its suppossed to have been, but the reasoning behind that decision is that Blair was more "appealling" than Brown. Presumably they would both have had similar policies but Blair was more media friendly so they thought they stood a better chance of winning, and then Brown was meant to take over later.....he didn't expect it to be so long though.
