Ape factor, Marfan Syndrome, I didn't know that.
« on: April 01, 2014, 08:28:10 PM »

Never understood this picture by Da Vinci, or bothered to Google it. Today I have.
The ideal man/woman should be the same height as their arm span.
People with longer arm span's like apes have, should be better at climbing or swimming. Hence the Ape bit.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vitruvian_Man

The reason for Googling it, been to the doctors today, she was very interested in my arm span and height.
I'm 6' 2", (was 6' 3 1/2", I've shrunk), and my finger tip arm spam is 6' 7". This is a trait for people with Marfan Syndrone.

I've got to have full blood tests and an ECG to help the doctor with her diagnosis of my ongoing ailment next week.
Looks like my problems won't be resolved before my holiday. At least I'm sort of getting used to the episodes  :-X

Sorry to hear that Fly, hope it isn't but do you know of any genetic probs in your family such as this. I know you are a tallish bloke but not sure if your arms look as long as long as what they say?

My arms are as long (as long) as they look. the span is deffo longer than my height.
Dad was diabetic, mum has heart issues.
Dad died of a heart attack. Aged 53 :-(
Mum's still alive, 67, but has heart problems.

I don't think dad's over weightness, angina and other health problems did him any favours though  :-X

Will do OC. Been with the same docs surgery all my life.
First time I've seen this GP, she seems ok, and interested in my case.  C:-)

I suspect you will bit a bit of enigma to her Fly.
It's good she's so interested, probably pouring over the medical journals reading up about it.
All good as she'll be on the ball for you.

Cheers ladies  ;)
BP is a bit high, but I'm not worried about it. Plenty of meds to put me fine and dandy.
Blood tests and ECG next week, then off to Majorca week after that.  8) :P
Will get the results when I come back off hols.

Pressed a wrong key on the keyboard and my last post totally disappeared  :(
Here's what it contained, I think LOL  :) OC's posted between my posts.

Mentioned the Marfan thing to a regular customer. He said I've got a tall lanky mate, he's got a pigeon chest you could eat your breakfast cereal out of. That's another trait of Marfan, I informed him. Bet he phoned his mate when I'd dropped him off.

Visions of his mate trying to measure his own arm span  ;)
At least he knows about the syndrome now. I don't think if I have the syndrome, I'm going to suffer all the symptoms.
Doc didn't hear any chest/heart problems and I don't have bad sight problems. Yet.
At least me and the doc know about it. Will make sure I see the same(female) doc in the future.

So which part of the syndrome if you have it might be causing the symptoms Fly

That, I won't know, till I get the test results. Catch 22. If I haven't got it what is up with me.
If I have it, it might not actually be the problem  ::)

Pete messaged me on the Mods board asking how I went on at the docs today.
Here's my reply to him. I don't have a problem sharing this info with the forum  :)

Quote:
Nurse hit the vein 1st time, no probs there, 3 philes of blood took.
They're going to do just about every test they can apart from pregnancy  :))
Sat me on the bench, stuck sensors on my legs, arms and chest and wired me up.
Pressed a button and about 4 foot of paper came rolling out with squiggles on it  ;D
Then she pressed again and another 4 foot came running out.
She picked it up, looked at it, said that looks ok, right you can go.
I see the doctor on the 29th April for my results  ;)
